Vancouver

The Vancouver Fire Hall 17 is a newly built training facility that will be the second largest fire hall for VFRS, specializing in HazMat response for the city. Due to the complex requirements of the facility, the building was divided into two separately certifiable Passive House zones: Zone A for living areas, running at 20 degrees, and Zone B for four drive-through apparatus bays and a full-size hose/training tower, running at 10 degrees in winter and 25 degrees in summer. This facility is one of 16 pilot projects under the Canada Green Building Council Zero Emissions Framework. Vancouver Fire Hall No.17 has achieved LEED® Zero Carbon Certification, making it the first fire hall in Canada to receive the Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) certification and the first project in BC to be certified.
