Safety

Several years ago DGS realized the only reasonable way to ensure the requirements of the WCB and DGS were properly implemented was to implement a safety plan so extensive that a professional safety-consulting firm was hired. This relationship has been in place since 1994 and has been successful in ensuring compliance and safety.

Our action plan involves commitment by DGS Construction Management and Action Safety Consulting.

The prime objective of the DGS Construction Safety Program is to ensure that work is preformed without risk of injury or disease. Our goal is to eliminate any accident, incident or injury to any workers or public in or around a DGS Construction job site.

DGS Construction believes all workers have the right to work safely, and should not be encouraged to work in an unsafe manner or in an unsafe condition for faster production purposes. We believe that production is not worth injuring oneself.

It is the responsibility of the superintendents and foremen to ensure that their employees are trained in their safe work procedures and to inform management when safety equipment is needed.

DGS construction management appreciates safety input from supervisors, foremen and workers to help reach our safety objective.

All supervisors, foremen, workers and subcontractors are expected to work together in reaching the DGS Construction safety objective to prevent any accident or incident to workers, public or property.

The following is the DGS Construction Company “Safety System Action Plan”. The purpose of the action plan is to ensure the Workers’ Compensation Board Industrial Health and Safety Regulations are adhered to and to minimize the risk of worker injury and disease.

  1. Set a company safety policy, which all contractors will understand and follow.
  2. Set company safety rules, guidelines and disciplinary policy.
  3. Educate the general and all subcontractors, supervisors and workers on the safety rules, guidelines and disciplinary action through safety orientations, which take place before work begins. Action Safety Consulting will instruct orientations.
  4. Conduct Safety inspections of the jobsite. Action Safety Consulting will conduct these inspections.
  5. Conduct bi-weekly safety committee meetings, which will include the site safety officer from Action Safety Consulting and management from all contractors on the site. The meetings will be based on safety violations and safety concerns on the jobsite.
  6. Discipline employers of contractors when safety violations are discovered.
